BOWMORE - 12 years - Sherry Cask - 40%
Bowmore Distillery is located on the island of Islay , Scotland . It was founded in 1779 by Islay merchant John Simson before passing to the Mutter family, a local family of German descent, who remained owners until 1925. Their many innovations included building their own steamship to bring barley and coal from the mainland and to deliver whisky to Glasgow. Since 1963, the distillery has been owned by Morrison Bowmore Distillers , which in 1994 was acquired by Suntory . The distillery site houses the world's oldest whisky maturation warehouse, Vaults No. 1, which dates back to the distillery's inception. Bowmore is one of the few distilleries to malt its own Islay barley, although this only provides a small proportion of the required quantity, so malted barley is also imported from the mainland.
This 12 year old was aged in ex-North American Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry American oak barrels .
