Champagne Marguet - Shaman 21 - Grand Cru Rosé
The Champagne Marguet Shaman 21 Grand Cru Rosé is crafted by Benoît Marguet, an iconic winemaker based in Ambonnay, one of the most prestigious villages in the Montagne de Reims. At the helm of an estate managed biodynamically for many years, he tends his grand cru vineyards like a true garden, favoring natural preparations, draft horses, and careful observation of lunar cycles. This artisanal approach gives rise to champagnes of great energy, deeply rooted in their chalky terroir. Shaman is the range that most directly expresses this vision, with cuvées that are little or not dosed, always of great purity. In its rosé version, Shaman 21 Grand Cru offers a sensual and luminous interpretation of the Ambonnay pinots, with a touch of indulgence without sacrificing precision. It is a winemaker’s champagne, limited in volume, highly sought after by lovers of natural and distinctive expressions.
Champagne Marguet Shaman 21 Grand Cru Rosé comes exclusively from vines located on grand cru classified terroirs around Ambonnay and neighboring villages, where Pinot Noir reigns supreme, complemented by Chardonnay. The grapes are hand-harvested at precise maturity, with controlled yields to concentrate the material while preserving freshness. Vinification is largely done in barrels or neutral containers, with indigenous yeasts and minimal cellar work, in a spirit of transparency and respect for the fruit. The rosé is obtained by blending white wines with a small proportion of Pinot Noir red wine, vinified specifically to bring color, delicate structure, and aromas of small red fruits. The tirage is followed by a long aging on lees which refines the bubbles, complexifies the bouquet, and brings a creamy texture without heaviness. The dosage, very low, places the cuvée in an extra brut style, perfectly consistent with the pursuit of purity and tension that characterizes the Marguet house.
On tasting, Shaman 21 Grand Cru Rosé presents a pale pink robe with salmon reflections, crossed by fine persistent bubbles. The nose reveals a delicate bouquet of wild strawberry, fresh raspberry, and redcurrant, complemented by notes of pink grapefruit, rose petals, and a subtle touch of sweet spices. On the palate, the attack is lively and clear, supported by a chiselled effervescence that highlights the freshness of the fruit. The mid-palate marries the indulgence of small red fruits with a chalky framework typical of the grand crus of the Montagne de Reims, offering beautiful verticality and great drinkability. The finish is long, salivating, slightly saline, with a return to citrus, chalk, and a hint of rose that leaves the palate perfectly clean. At the table, this signature rosé beautifully accompanies salmon or tuna carpaccio, sushi, sea bream tartare, roasted free-range poultry, a lightly sweetened red fruit dessert, or simply a refined aperitif.
