Château LA GAFFELIÈRE 1976
First Grand Cru Classé B of Saint-Emilion
The estate has belonged to the Malet-Roquefort family for four centuries, and is therefore the oldest family of Saint-Emilion. It takes its name from the hospital for lepers, called "Gaffet", in medieval times.
The vineyard covers 25 hectares, including 22 hectares of vineyards located in Saint-Emilion, between the Ausone and Pavie hills. The grape variety is made of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc on a clay-limestone soil. The average age of the vines is 35 years old.
1976 is a great vintage for the red wines of Saint-Emilion.
