Château LAGRANGE 1985
Château Lagrange 1985, Third Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien, perfectly illustrates the qualitative renewal of the estate begun in the early 1980s. Located on a terroir of deep gravel mixed with clay and sand, the vineyard benefits from exceptional natural drainage, guaranteeing uniform maturity and a typical expression of Médoc finesse.
The 1985 vintage, marked by a warm and consistent climate, produced supple, harmonious wines with great aging potential. The blend, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot, was aged for a long time in oak barrels, giving the wine structure and complexity.
Nearly forty years later, this Lagrange reveals superb maturity. The nose exudes aromas of candied blackcurrant, leather, tobacco, and truffle, enriched with nuances of cedar, spice box, and licorice. On the palate, the texture is silky, the tannins perfectly blended. The wine retains a delicate fruit core, balanced by a still-lively freshness. The finish, long and harmonious, stretches out with notes of undergrowth, mocha, and noble wood, typical of a great, mature Saint-Julien.
A mature and serene vintage, ideal for enjoying today with roasted red meat, game birds, or a platter of mature cheeses. Serve between 17 and 18°C after gentle decanting.
Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot
