Château CANTENAC BROWN 2003

In Margaux, along the road and at Marsac in Soussans, the vines grow on more clay-limestone soils. Thanks to the diversity and quality of the soils, the quality of the wines is consistent. This terroir is the signature of the wines of the Margaux appellation, characterized by their elegance and generosity.

The Château uses environmentally friendly cultivation methods. Before each planting, a soil study is carried out to optimize the preparation of the soil, the choice of grafts or grape varieties. Planting densities are between 8,500 and 10,000 feet per hectare, to express the best of our vines. Land management is done in an environmental way and with respect for the terroir (plowing, composting). Each year, 95 people manually harvest the grapes, varietal by varietal, plot by plot, at perfect maturity. The control of the maturity and particularly the tasting of the berries determine the date of harvest.

The bunches are delicately transported in crates to the cellar to avoid crushing them. They are manually selected on a sorting table and then destemmed to retain only the berries. The berries are then scanned and sorted by optical sorting which only keeps the best of the harvest. The alcoholic fermentation of the wines takes place in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks. During the vinification, pumping over and extraction are carried out and adapted to each tank and grape variety, depending on the vintage.

When the wines have finished their malolactic fermentation, they are transferred to barrels, vats by vats, plot by plot. These batches will then be tasted one by one, then assembled to create the best. Once the assembly is complete, the wines finish maturing in barrels.
