Domaine Danjou Banessy - Supernova 2024
Domaine Danjou-Banessy is one of the most distinctive signatures of Roussillon, located in Espira-de-l’Agly, in a Catalan landscape of schists, marls, limestone, and Mediterranean light. Benoît and Sébastien Danjou continue the family history by giving the terroirs of the Agly valley a precise, lively, and deeply artisanal interpretation. The estate is known for its dry wines with strong identity, but also for freer, sometimes experimental cuvées that explore less conventional expressions of the grape. Supernova 2024 fits into this vein, with a maceration white wine in Vin de France that highlights Muscat of Alexandria in an expressive, aromatic, and contemporary form. This cuvée shows another facet of Roussillon, more floral, more immediate, and more airy than the estate’s great aging whites. However, it retains the Danjou-Banessy spirit, made of sincerity, energy, and respect for life. Domaine Danjou-Banessy Supernova 2024 thus presents itself as an original, bright, and intensely Mediterranean white.
The Supernova 2024 cuvée is made from 100% Muscat of Alexandria, an ancient and very aromatic grape variety, particularly suited to the warm climates of the Mediterranean basin. Here, the choice of maceration vinification allows going beyond the simple varietal register of Muscat to achieve more texture, spices, and complexity. The grape naturally expresses floral notes, exotic fruits, citrus, and a very recognizable muscat dimension, but maceration adds relief, a slight grip, and a more structured finish. Available sources describe a slightly sparkling maceration white wine, marked by freshness, flowers, exotic fruits, and a spicy finish. This approach produces a wine that is both accessible and unique, capable of surprising with its intense aromatics and a more vibrant touch than a classic white. The 2024 vintage highlights an immediate, fragrant, and digestible profile, designed for fruit pleasure and spontaneity. Supernova 2024 thus illustrates a free expression of Roussillon, between delicate orange wine, aromatic white, and textured thirst-quenching wine.
On tasting, Domaine Danjou-Banessy Supernova 2024 offers a clear robe with a slightly golden hue, sometimes cloudy or veiled depending on bottling and serving, in the spirit of low-intervention wines. The nose may evoke white flowers, verbena, black tea, orange peel, peach, lychee, exotic fruits, and a touch of white pepper. On the palate, the wine is fresh, aromatic, and lively, with a slightly tannic texture brought by maceration. The body remains fluid but has enough relief to accompany food and stand up to flavorful dishes. The finish is spicy, floral, and slightly bitter, with a freshness sensation that balances the aromatic intensity of Muscat. This maceration white will ideally accompany Mediterranean cuisine, grilled vegetables, marinated fish, poultry with mild spices, lightly spiced Thai dishes, fresh herb cheese, or tapas. It should be served cool but not icy, around 10 to 12 °C, to preserve its aromatic energy and texture.
