 To fully appreciate the incredible subtlety of Riesling, especially when it is processed by the Dönnhoffs, it must of course be tasted at all stages of maturity and levels of sweetness. By their immediate proximity to the river, the thirty-year-old vines benefit from an ideal microclimate, much milder than elsewhere, higher up on the slopes. Coupled with the humidity brought by the Nahe, the conditions are perfect for obtaining overripe grapes. The soil, for its part, provides structure, good acidity and a real mineral finesse: along the river, the slates are covered with limestone sands and a thin layer of silty soil.

What appeals here is certainly this exemplary harmony between the sweetness of the ripe fruit (here evoking pear, juicy clementine and pineapple) and the superb acidity, never aggressive, always refreshing.

If we can already smell subtle spicy and honeyed notes, it is obvious that the aromatic will continue to become more complex in the coming years. Ditto for the already deliciously creamy texture, which will continue to gain even more depth. Because of course, this delicious Spätlese today with its fruity freshness, will delight you within 15 years with its depth and exceptional balance.
