Château CLIMENS 1989 Château CLIMENS 1989 At the summit of the Barsac appellation, neighboring Sauternes and also producing great sweet white wines, Château Climens has been delighting worshippers of Bacchus for nearly five centuries. Developed from the 16th century by the Roborel family, which later became Roborel de Climens, the cru quickly acquired a solid reputation, based on the stability of its plots and the small number of successive owners. Harmed during the Revolution, Château Climens was bought from the Roborel de Climens family by the Bordeaux wine merchant Jean Binaud in 1802. The latter, imitated by subsequent owners, strived to promote a cru for which he predicted a great future. This work was crowned by the presence of Château Climens in the 1855 classification, as a Premier Cru of Sauternes and Barsac. Thirty years later, Château Climens became the property of the Gounouilhou family, who spent nearly a century working to establish the quality of an already legendary wine.

Château CLIMENS 1989

Château Climens is located in Barsac , in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified as a Premier Cru in the 1885 classification of Sauternes and Barsac . Climens is one of the rare Bordeaux châteaux to produce its wines from a single grape variety, Sémillon . Château Climens now belongs to the Moitry family. In 2010, Climens began practicing biodynamic winemaking and viticulture, and the 2014 vintage was the first to be fully biodynamic certified .

Botrytis develops on grapes due to the foggy mornings, humidity and warmer afternoons that are typical during the months before harvest. The grapes are harvested and brought into the cellar, plot by plot, where they are gently pressed before fermentation in oak barrels . Aging takes place in French oak barrels on lees for approximately 20 months .
