The estate owes its name to the Chevalier de la Montaigne, adviser to the Parliament of Bordeaux who owned it in 1711. On the Belleyme map established at the end of the 18th century, “Bastore” is already an important estate, but the real growth of the wine will be the work of Amédée Larrieu in the 19th century, who also owned Château Haut-Brion in Pessac.
At Château Bastor-Lamontagne, the expression of fruit and harmony have always been privileged: often referred to as “modern Sauternes”, the wines possess finesse and balance making them pleasant to drink at any time. Although it can keep for a long time, Château Bastor-Lamontagne is a wine that can be enjoyed young thanks to its liveliness and elegance.
Since the summer of 2014, a new page in the history of Château Bastor-Lamontagne has been written under the aegis of the new owners, the Moulin and Cathiard families, who provide this cru with their enthusiasm and competence.
