Chateau LAGRANGE 2010
Château Lagrange is known in the Middle Ages under the name of noble house of Lagrange Monteil and we can find traces of the various owners since 1631. In 1842, the former Minister of the Interior of King Louis-Philippe, the Count Duchatel, marks both the property and the Médoc by being the initiator of the drainage of the vines. It is the great time of Lagrange which in 1855 sees the classification allotting to him the position of 3rd Cru.
The start of the 20th century is much less glorious as economic conditions deteriorate. Despite several changes of ownership, the crops are poor and of low quality. A fragmentation was made necessary by this stagnation: from 280 hectares in 1840, the estate was reduced to 157 hectares when the Japanese group Suntory bought it in December 1983 from the Cendoya family who had owned it since 1925.
Familiar with the wine world and beverage leader in Japan, Suntory provided the necessary capital for the spectacular renovation of the estate. Marcel Ducasse, recruited for this purpose, successfully managed this company from 1984 to 2007, accompanying it with a profound restructuring of the operation. After more than twenty years of work, human and technical investments, Lagrange has regained its rank and the recognition of its peers. In May 2007, Bruno Eynard succeeded Marcel Ducasse at the management of Lagrange after having assisted him in the technical direction for 17 years.
