Château YON-FIGEAC 1970
In its first wine, the Grand Cru Classé Yon-Figeac invites the two main grape varieties of Saint-Émilion, with 4 fifths of merlot for a fifth of cabernet franc. The vines are 35 years old on average and they occupy a clay-sandy soil on a subsoil rich in iron scum.
After manual harvesting at full maturity and careful sorting, the vinification is fragmented and highly extractive, before aging for 12 to 14 months in new oak barrels.
Thus is born a Grand Cru classified complex nose on cherry, blackberry, vanilla and toasty notes. The palate is full, balanced, spicy, woody and long. Good vintages will keep more than 10 years without trouble.
