LAGAVULIN - Distillers Edition 2020 - 43%
Lagavulin is a distillery located on the south shore of the Isle of Islay, Scotland. Its name in Gaelic means "the hollow by the mill". It is renowned for producing a strongly peated Single Malt whisky with powerful iodine notes. It belongs to the United Distillers subsidiary of Diageo. Built in 1816, the distillery is one of three well-known producers along the coast between the villages of Port Ellen and Kildalton (the others being Ardbeg and Laphroaig). The distillery uses water exclusively from neighboring Solum Lochs and the barley is malted at nearby Port Ellen. The distillery has four stills and produces several expressions in three main series. Lagavulin is a Malt with powerful flavours and the house style offers descriptors of marine and iodine, slightly medicinal and tarry flavours.
This Distiller’s Edition was distilled in 2003 and then bottled in 2019. This 16-year-old has been aged in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.
