BOWMORE - 18 ans - Millésime 2002 - The Story of the Wind & Wave - 52.8%
This Bowmore expression is marketed by The Character of Islay Whisky Company. This independent bottler distributes whiskies from the island of Islay that play on the mythical notions of the island, here wind and waves ("The story of the Wind & Wave"). Distilled in 2002 at the Bowmore Distillery, the whisky is aged for 18 years.
The Bowmore Distillery is located on the Isle of Islay, Scotland. It was founded in 1779 by merchant Islay John Simson before passing to the Mutter family, a local family of German descent, who remained the owner until 1925. Their many innovations included building their own steamboat to bring barley and coal from the mainland and to deliver the whisky to Glasgow. Since 1963, the distillery has been owned by Morrison Bowmore Distillers, which in 1994 was acquired by Suntory. The site of the distillery houses the oldest whisky maturation warehouse in the world: the Vaults No.1, which dates back to the creation of the distillery. Bowmore is one of the few distilleries that malts its own Islay barley, although this provides only a small proportion of the amount required, so malted barley is also imported from the mainland.
