Domaine JOSMEYER - Riesling - Grand Cru - Hengst 2016
Domaine Josmeyer is located in the village of Wintzenheim , in the Haut-Rhin of Alsace . In 1854, Aloyse Meyer, restaurateur and wine broker, decided to extend her father's winery by trading in wines and endeavored to promote the best local terroirs and particularly those of Brand and Hengst, recognized today. as Grands Crus. In 1941, Hubert Meyer, a graduate in oenology and an excellent winemaker, chose to diversify his markets and started exporting. In 1963, he decided to associate the first three letters of his father Joseph's first name with the family name and created the Josmeyer brand. In 1966, his eldest son Jean joined the family business. In charge of winemaking and foreign markets, he brought modernity and creativity to it by associating, from 1987, works by contemporary artists with labels. In 2000, he decided to convert the entire 28-hectare vineyard to organic and biodynamic cultivation. Today, Jean Meyer's two daughters, Céline and Isabelle , manage the family farm.
Riesling Grand Cru Hengst comes from three plots in the heart of Hengst, whose terroir consists of brown limestone, sandstone and clay soils associated with Oligocene conglomerates. The age of the vine is 50 years. The grapes are harvested manually and then pressed whole for about 7 hours. Fermentation begins spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in a century- old cask . The wine is then aged on fine lees for several months.
Varietal: 100% Riesling
