Dr Fischer- Wawerner Herrenberger Riesling Auslese GK - Golden Kapsule 1983
Weingut Dr. Fischer is located in the Saar, in Mosel, Germany. In March 2014, Martin Foradori Hofstätter seized the welcome opportunity to revitalize the historic “Weingut Dr. Fischer”. The small, internationally acclaimed winery cultivates Riesling in the top class, steep sites “Ockfener Bockstein” and “Saarburger Kupp”. Josef Hofstätter, a trained locksmith, operated a small restaurant in Tramin (Alto-Adige, Italy) together with his wife Maria and produced wine in their cellar. Being business savvy and forward-thinking, he founded a winery in 1907 and successfully traded wine. Since then, the J. Hofstätter estate has been the only family winery in Alto Adige to own vineyards on both sides of the Adige River and to venture to Germany.
Herrenberger is a single-vineyard in the municipality of Wawern (Saar). The south-southeast facing vineyard with a 40 to 60% slope covers 3.5 hectares of vineyards on rock-rich, slightly weathered grey slate soil. The vineyard is solely owned by the Dr. Fischer winery.
Auslese is made from grapes that have a sweetness level of 83–110 Oechsle (the hydrometric scale measuring the density of grape must) which is equivalent to 191–260 g/L of residual sugar, and where the grapes are hand-selected and have noble rot.
