Fritz Haag - Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2022
Weingut Fritz Haag is located in Brauneberg, Moselle, Germany . The first documented mention of the estate dates back to 1605, when the town was called Dusemond. Oliver Haag took over the estate in 2005 and has been managing it ever since with his wife Jessica. The vineyards cover a total of 19 hectares, planted on Devonian slate soils on slopes of up to 80 degrees. This terroir is well-suited to Riesling, providing a cool, well-drained environment that allows for full ripening without sacrificing acidity. The well-known Erste Lage Brauneberger Juffer and Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr vineyards are fully related to Fritz Haag.
The Juffer-Sonnenuhr site is a subdivision of the Juffer vineyard, located in the Brauneberger region, covering approximately 10 hectares. The soils are extremely stony and consist of the same weathered Devonian slate found all along the hillside. Its subsoils have a high clay content, particularly lower down towards the banks of the Moselle. The Riesling grapes are hand-harvested and crushed before pressing. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in foudres and stainless steel tanks with long aging on the lees. This Auslese -style wine is sweet and contains 148 g/L of residual sugar.
Grape variety: 100% Riesling
