Château PAPE CLEMENT 1982
Château Pape Clément is located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation in the Bordeaux wine region. The chateau takes its name from its founder, Bertrand de Got, who was Archbishop of Bordeaux and became Pope Clement V in 1305. It is currently part of the Bernard Magrez group of estates. The Pape Clément vineyard is located on a mixture of gravelly-sandy and clay-limestone soils, with a chalky subsoil rich in iron. Thirty hectares are planted with red grape varieties and 2.5 hectares with white grape varieties.
The 1982 vintage for Bordeaux was and still is considered a great vintage. The growing season was idyllic with bud burst and flowering under perfect conditions. The mild, dry weather continued throughout the summer, with July seeing particularly hot days while August brought cooler days just before a glorious Indian summer took place in September, raising the vintage.
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc
