Domain of Solitude 2018
The Domaine de la Solitude is located in Pessac-Léognan , in the Bordeaux wine region. In 1820, the Bordeaux priest Pierre Bienvenu Noailles founded the Association of the Holy Family, a Christian community. The Association brings together apostolic and contemplative sisters, associated priests, lay people etc. and they settled in the Hermitage, a main building on the edge of the farm buildings. They share their time between working in the fields and running an orphanage. In the 1970s, the sisters decided to enhance their wine capital, and abandoned its management to entrust it to external stakeholders. In 1993, Olivier Bernard (who has been managing the Domaine de Chevalier since 1983), agrees to lease the 34-hectare wine estate of La Solitude for a period of 40 years.
Domaine de la Solitude Rouge is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot . The harvest is manual and selective sorting is carried out: sorting on whole bunches, then sorting on individual berries. The grapes are placed in vats by gravity. The aging lasts 12 months in barrels , with the first months on the lees.
