Château FIGEAC 2002
Château Figeac is located in Saint-Emilion , in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the Saint-Émilion classification of 1955. In the 18th century the vineyard was much larger until sections were sold in the 19th century, including those which enlarged Cheval Blanc in 1832. The current vineyard of Château Figeac is nevertheless among the largest in Saint-Émilion with 40 hectares and the estate covers a total of 54 hectares. There are three gravel outcrops, which explains the unusually high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Today, the domain is managed by Thierry Manoncourt's daughters (Blandine de Brier Manoncourt and Hortense Idoine Manoncourt), as well as long-time technical director Frédéric Faye.
The grapes are vinified in a variety of small vessels, either open conical wooden vats or stainless steel vats, which correspond to specific batches in the vineyard. The Grand Vin is aged entirely in new oak barrels.
Grapes: 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot
