Grape of the Art - Armagnac Château de Hontambère - Vintage 1985 - 36 years old - Bottled 2022 - 56.6%
Grape of the Art is an independent German bottler specializing in Armagnacs. The idea for Grape of the Art was born during a blind tasting by the founders of the Rum & Whiskey group in Stuttgart. The team today consists of Robert Bauer, Oliver Gerhardt, Sascha Junkert, Christian Maier and Leonard Stumpf. They exclusively source Cognacs and Armagnacs brut de casks, unaltered, from single barrels. Theresa Plos is in charge of the creation of the labels, in a minimalist and sophisticated philosophy.
Hontambere is an Armagnac from Ténarèze. It was distilled from the Ugni Blanc grape in 1985 , in an Armagnac still, by Pierre Laporte at Domaine Pouchégu . It was aged in a humid cellar for 36 years in a single cask ( #6). This Armagnac was bottled in August 2022 and 350 bottles were produced. The label is an abstract depiction of an ancient alchemist's workplace, complete with a skull, beakers and spiders.
