Cloudy Bay - Sauvignon Blanc 2022
Cloudy Bay Vineyards is located on the South Island of New Zealand . The estate owns four vineyards in the Wairau Valley sub-region, in Marlborough and Central Otago , and sources fruit from nine other Wairau vineyards. It was founded by David Hohnen in 1985, one of the first five winemakers to venture into Marlborough. The cave was named after Cloudy Bay, a body of water that Captain James Cook discovered during his voyage to New Zealand in 1770: its discovery coincided with floods in the area, which caused great amounts of sediment in the sea. Noting the cloudy appearance of the water, Cook named the area Cloudy Bay. In 1990, Hohnen sold Cloudy Bay to Veuve Clicquot but remained in charge of its operations. He finally left in 2003, after the takeover of Veuve Clicquot by the multinational luxury group LVMH .
Sauvignon Blanc is Cloudy Bay's signature wine. After the harvest, the tasting wine is decanted cold, before racking and inoculation with selected yeasts. Fermentation was carried out primarily in stainless steel tanks , with approximately 4% of the blend fermented at warmer temperatures in old French oak barrels and full-size oak vats .
Grape variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
