Domaine La Manarine - Pied de Baud - Châteauneuf du Pape 2020
Domaine La Manarine is located in the commune of Travaillan, in the south of the Rhône Valley. The estate has belonged to Gilles Gasq since 2001. He was head of cultivation and cellar master at several estates in Ventoux and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, notably at André Brunel, before setting out on his own. He named his estate Manarine in homage to his father, a winegrower in Corsica, who farmed a few hectares in this place. Its vineyard today extends over 35 hectares. In 2015, Gilles Gasq managed to acquire two adjacent plots in the northern sector of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The two places called “Cabrières” and “Pied de Baud” total 1.5 hectares and are composed entirely of Grenache whose average age is 45 years. Although located side by side, the two plots are clearly different: “Pied de Baud” has sandy soil, while “Cabrières” is more stony with the rolled pebbles for which Châteauneuf du Pape is famous. Located in the north, these two sites are much cooler than the rest of the appellation. Gilles Gasq practices organic farming .
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Pied de Baud is made from Grenache Noir . The wine is aged in concrete eggs .
