Champagne Dhondt Grellet - Roc Solare - Extra Brut
Domaine Dhondt-Grellet is located in Flavigny , just outside Avize , in the heart of the Côte des Blancs region of Champagne . The 6-hectare vineyard is planted with Chardonnay (in the communes of Cramant, Chouilly and Cuis) and Pinot Noir in Avenay-Val-d'Or in the Grande Vallées de la Marne. In 1986, Eric Dhondt and Edith Grellet decided to stop selling grapes to merchants and launched Dhondt-Grellet. Their son, Adrien , now in his twenties, took over the winemaking and quickly took his family's wines to another level. He slowly expanded the range of Champagnes produced by isolating their holdings throughout the villages of Cramant and Cuis and bottling the pure expressions of Chardonnay.
Roc Solare is a blend of Chardonnay (90%) and Pinot Noir (10%) grown on flint pebbles in the Coteaux du Sézannais . The vineyard is 45 years old. The base vintage (2021) represents 70% of the blend, with the remainder coming from a perpetual reserve dating back to 1986. The wine is vinified in stainless steel vats and barrels. It was bottled in August 2022 and disgorged in September 2024. The dosage is Extra-Brut at 2.5 g/L.
Grape varieties: 90% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir
"A solar cuvée that lives up to its name: Roc Solare reveals a vibrant tension, with aromas of candied lemon zest, warm stone and white-fleshed fruits."
