Jérôme Bretaudeau - Domaine de Bellevue - Gaïa 2023
The Domaine de Bellevue is managed by Jérôme Bretaudeau, a major figure in the Nantes vineyard, recognized for having elevated Muscadet and the great Loire whites to a level of precision and demand rarely achieved. Based in Gétigné, southeast of Nantes, he runs his estate using biodynamic practices, with a resolutely parcel-focused approach where each cuvée is conceived as the expression of a soil, a grape variety, and a vintage. Jérôme Bretaudeau is a dedicated winemaker, attentive to natural balances and the long term, whose wines are now sought after far beyond the Loire for their depth and aging potential. Gaïa fully embodies this demanding and sensitive vision of wine.
The cuvée Gaïa 2023 is a white wine made from Chardonnay, produced outside of appellation to allow the winemaker complete freedom of interpretation. This cuvée highlights a pure and structured reading of the grape variety, worked with the same rigor as the estate’s parcel-specific cuvées. The 2023 vintage offers a beautiful balance between maturity and freshness, allowing for a broad yet taut expression. The vinification is carried out with precision, in a minimally interventionist spirit, to preserve the wine’s energy and the clarity of the place. The aging is conducted with patience and restraint, seeking depth and texture rather than a showy effect.
On the palate, Gaïa 2023 stands out for its balance and quiet depth. The nose opens with aromas of ripe white fruits, lemon, delicate flowers, and an elegant mineral touch. The mouth is broad, structured, and taut at the same time, supported by a beautiful freshness that stretches the body and brings great length. The Chardonnay expresses itself here in a serious and gastronomic register, far from any heaviness, with a long, precise, and saline finish. This wine pairs perfectly with noble fish, shellfish, refined poultry, or a pure gastronomic cuisine. It can be enjoyed today but also has a beautiful aging potential.
