Château MALESCOT ST-EXUPÉRY 2019
In Margaux, Château Malescot St-Exupéry occupies a terroir of deep gravel soils that contribute to the finesse and structure characteristic of the great wines of the appellation. Third Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the estate has belonged to the Zuger family since the mid-20th century and benefits from meticulous work both in the vineyards and the cellar. Cabernet Sauvignon forms the natural backbone of the vineyard, while Merlot adds more flesh and roundness to the mid-palate. Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot complete the blend by bringing aromatic freshness, spices, and depth respectively. The gravelly soils ensure effective drainage, while the more clayey horizons help maintain a regular water supply. The generous yet balanced 2019 vintage allowed the grapes to reach beautiful maturity while preserving the freshness essential to Margaux's elegance. Malescot St-Exupéry 2019 thus offers a broad, deep, and silky profile with perfectly integrated concentration.
Château Malescot St-Exupéry 2019 is mainly a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Cabernet Sauvignon provides a straight structure, notes of blackcurrant, and a beautiful length, while Merlot enriches the texture and gives more suppleness to the heart of the palate. Cabernet Franc contributes floral and spicy dimensions, while Petit Verdot enhances the color and depth of the whole. The different plots are vinified separately to preserve their identity before the final blending. Extraction is carried out with precision to build body without hardening the tannins. Aging in French oak barrels then gradually supports the wine's structure and refines its texture. The 2019 stands out for its beautiful density but also for a fine texture that allows it to be already appealing while retaining significant aging potential.
The color shows a deep garnet with still strong ruby reflections. The nose opens on blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry, accompanied by violet, cedar, and graphite. With aeration, notes of cocoa, licorice, blond tobacco, and sweet spices appear. The palate is broad and velvety, with ripe and fine tannins giving the wine depth without heaviness. Merlot brings a fleshy texture, while Cabernet Sauvignon maintains a beautiful tension and prolongs the tasting. The finish is long, fresh, and persistent, with black fruits, spices, and a slight mineral dimension. Château Malescot St-Exupéry 2019 will accompany a roasted rack of lamb, a beef fillet with porcini mushrooms, pigeon, duck breast, or refined cuisine centered around black truffle.
