Domaine de l'Arlot - Clos du Chapeau Monopole 2023
Located in Premeaux-Prissey, south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine de l'Arlot cultivates a precise vision of its terroirs through organic viticulture and biodynamic practices. Clos du Chapeau is a monopole vineyard in Comblanchien, a 1.6-hectare estate planted on clay-limestone soils that promote Pinot Noir of great purity and clean fruit. The estate's style seeks tactile finesse and aromatic precision, hallmarks of these well-drained and cool Jurassic rocks.
The 2023 vintage offers a meticulous expression of this plot. The grapes are entirely destemmed and then undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration for approximately seven days at 14°C. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in stainless steel tanks for eighteen days using indigenous yeasts and daily pump-overs. Yields are intentionally kept to around thirty-five hectoliters per hectare to preserve density and precision. The wine is aged for approximately eleven months in French oak barrels, with nearly thirty percent new oak, followed by six weeks in tanks. Bottling takes place in early September 2024 to preserve the vibrancy of the fruit.
The nose opens with fresh raspberry, crisp cherry, and redcurrant, enhanced by a touch of pepper and subtle hints of vanilla. The palate is lively and agile, with a core of juicy red fruit supported by a very fine chalky structure. The supple and precise texture unfolds with ripe, tightly woven tannins that support a lingering, savory finish. The finish is direct and mouthwatering, with a touch of sweet spice and a freshness that prolongs the sensation of purity. This 2023 can be enjoyed for its fruitiness now, while also gaining complexity over the next five to ten years.
At the table, it pairs well with roast veal fillet, pigeon with chanterelles, free-range poultry with herbs, or mushroom risotto. Pairings with pike-perch in red wine sauce, grilled beef, or aged Brie de Meaux respect its delicate mouthfeel and highlight its freshness.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
