Domaine de l'Arlot - Hautes Côtes de Nuits Le Mont Blanc 2023
Located in Premeaux-Prissey, south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine de l'Arlot cultivates its vines organically and practices biodynamic farming to enhance the pure limestone soils of its slopes. The estate's style aims for precise, elegant wines with a refined mouthfeel and a natural balance between energy and maturity.
The 2023 Mont Blanc comes from a high-altitude, southeast-facing plot, where the cool nights prolong the aging process and refine the aromas. Harvested at optimal ripeness, the Chardonnay grapes are slowly pressed, carefully settled, and then fermented in tanks and Burgundy barrels. Aging on fine lees, with a controlled amount of oak, adds depth without masking the fruit. Bottling preserves the tension and mouthwatering character of the vintage.
The nose opens with acacia blossom, lemon zest, and crisp pear. Aeration reveals fresh almond, a hint of verbena, and the mineral signature of a wet stone. The palate is precise and satiny. The attack is crisp, the texture unfolding a chalky framework that supports a heart of citrus and juicy white fruits. Aging suggests a subtle hazelnut nuance without heaviness. The finish is long, clean, and mouthwatering, with a return of lemon peel and a precise salinity that extends the persistence.
At the table, this high-altitude white wine pairs well with oysters, sea bass ceviche with citrus, sole meunière, or turbot with lemon butter. It complements roasted free-range poultry, asparagus risotto, pan-fried chanterelles, and hard cheeses such as aged Comté or a goat's milk tomme, whose sweetness underscores its acidity.
