Maison Camille Thiriet - Savagnin - Côtes du Jura 2024
Maison Camille Thiriet, located in Comblanchien in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, was founded in 2016 under the impetus of Camille Thiriet and Matt Chittick. Known for its precise and confidential Burgundian micro-cuvées, the house is committed to revealing often discreet terroirs with an artisanal, careful, and minimally interventionist approach. While its roots remain deeply Burgundian, this Savagnin cuvée opens a window to Jura, a neighboring region with a unique character. The official domain presents this white as a Côtes du Jura Savagnin ouillé, meaning aged without a marked oxidative veil. This approach preserves the purity of the grape variety, its natural tension, and its aromatic brightness. The result is in a refined, elegant, and very precise register.
This 2024 Savagnin is aged 10 months in demi-muid, a container that brings volume and complexity without dominating the wine. The ouillé style highlights a fresher, straighter, and more saline expression of the grape, far from the oxidative profiles traditionally associated with some great Jura whites. Citrusy, floral, and mineral notes are at the center of the balance, supported by a tense and precise palate. The cuvée also displays an alcohol level of 13.5%, according to available wine merchant information. The 2024 vintage thus seems to favor clarity, energy, and length rather than demonstrative richness. This interpretation of Savagnin reflects well Camille Thiriet's sensitivity for pure, readable, and refined wines.
On tasting, this Côtes du Jura white reveals a luminous profile, carried by citrus fruits, white flowers, a very fine touch of dried fruits, and a saline minerality. The palate combines tension, texture, and precision, with a discreet wood aging that rounds out the whole without masking the freshness of the Savagnin. The finish is long, vibrant, and slightly savory, ideal to accompany dishes that are both delicate and expressive. It will pair very well with sauced fish, shellfish, creamy poultry, mushroom risotto, or aged Comté cheese. Its acidic structure and natural depth will also allow it to evolve favorably for a few years in the cellar. A rare and original cuvée, which unites Camille Thiriet's Burgundian precision with the vibrant identity of Jura.
