Domaine des Marnes Blanches - En Quatre Vis - Chardonnay 2023
Chardonnay, carried by the white marls and limestone scree of the South Revermont. The color, a bright pale yellow with silvery reflections, announces a taut and luminous style rather than opulent. The nose first opens with notes of fine citrus, yellow lemon and sweet grapefruit, quickly joined by fresh pear and crisp apple. In the background, a touch of white flowers, linden and a chalky sensation evoke the minerality of the terroir. The whole remains of great aromatic purity, without artifice, with a clear and precise fruit. One can already perceive, from the first nose, this tension that defines the personality of the cuvée. En Quatre Vis 2023 thus presents itself as a straight, luminous and very readable Jura Chardonnay in its expression.
On the palate, the wine combines beautiful energy and a carefully worked texture, with a lively attack that immediately stretches the fruit. The body is slender, almost fuselated, supported by a ripe acidity that structures the wine without harshness. We find the citrus, pear and a fine noble bitterness reminiscent of lemon zest and fresh almond, which bring relief and length. The low-intervention vinification, faithful to the spirit of the domaine, favors natural fermentations and precise aging that delicately polishes the body without overloading it. The palate gains in breadth with oxygen, without ever losing its mineral thread. This alliance of tension, salinity and tactile softness marks a white wine that is both serious and perfectly digestible. The 2023 vintage finds here a fresh, balanced and very clear expression.
En Quatre Vis 2023 establishes itself as a true gastronomic wine, ideal to accompany precise and elegant cuisine. It will pair wonderfully with river or lake fish, a delicate ceviche, creamy poultry, pike quenelles or a risotto with seasonal vegetables. Its saline framework and straightness also make it a choice ally for Jura cheeses that are lightly to moderately aged, such as a young Comté or a fresh tome. Served around 11 to 12 °C, it fully unfolds its bouquet and texture without hardening. Already very attractive in its youth by its brightness and precision, it also has the potential to evolve for a few years, developing notes of light honey, dried fruits and wax while retaining its mineral backbone. This cuvée illustrates the ability of Domaine des Marnes Blanches to produce whites that are both deep, modern and faithful to their terroir. It is a Chardonnay with identity, chiselled and vibrant, that accurately tells the uniqueness of the Jura marls.
