SANCERRE BLANC - MONT DAMNE DAGUENEAU DIDIER 2017
Didier Dagueneau comes from a family of winemakers but did not start his career in the world of wine, opting instead for motorcycle racing. Only, after a succession of accidents, he retired and returned to the Loire to make wine under his own label. He created the Domaine Didier Dagueneau in 1982 in the commune of Saint-Andelain, in the Pouilly-Fuméappellation. Dagueneau's approach has revitalized the image of Pouilly-Fumé, but also more generally of the Sauvignon Blanc itself.
In 1993, he was one of the first producers to convert his vineyard to biodynamic practices: plowing the soil with horses, reducing yields... In 2000, he bought plots in Sancerre in the Mont Damnés, before to expand to Jurançon in 2002. Sadly, Didier Dagueneau died in 2008 in a plane crash and his children, Louis-Benjamin and Charlotte took over the operation.
Dagueneau’s Mont Damné is the only cuvée from the Sancerre appellation produced by the Domaine. The grapes of Sauvignon Blanc are cultivated on the plot of the Monts Damnés, one of the most renowned in Chavignol. This wine shows remarkable concentration, and its almost tannic structure gives it great aging potential.
Grape variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
