REMELLURI - Blanco 2017
Remelluri (Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri by its full name) is located in Labastida in the Rioja Alavesa region of Spain. The estate was founded by monks in the 14th Century. The vineyards changed ownership often before being purchased by Jaime Rodríguez in 1967. In 2010 his children, Amaia and Telmo Rodríguez took over the estate. While the estate has always avoided chemical inputs, organic certification was achieved in 2010.
The Remelluri Blanco is a blend of up to nine different grape varieties. Each plot is fermented separately using native yeasts. It is fermented in a mix of barrels, large wooden vats and concrete tanks. After a 12-months ageing in the same containers, it is blended. The wine then spends another eight months in tank. Little new oak is used, wines are bottled after a light filtration and fining.
