Château Cornélie - Magnum 2015
Château Cornélie is located in the town of Saint-Sauveur, between the towns of Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe in the Haut-Médoc of Bordeaux. It belongs to Marie and Patrick Grisard and was created in 2004, when the 5.5-hectare property was a vineyard rental system. Composed of Pyrenean gravels, Stampian limestones and Sannoisian marls, the Château Cornélie vineyard has a very interesting complex mixture divided into 6 plots with, for the most part, a clay-limestone terroir. These characteristics make it possible to have relatively filtering soils, which promote very good penetration of the roots to get in-depth the mineral elements as well as the water they need. This gives the vine excellent resistance in years of drought. Close to the Gironde and the ocean, the climate allows for very good conditions to bring each grape variety to optimal maturity. Patrick Grisard cultivates Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, of which 30% date from 1956 to 1978, 66% from 1981 to 1990 and 4% from 1998. Patrick Grisard's wines are not traditional to the region, many tasters ask him if he uses Syrah as his wines have a spicy core. His philosophy is to produce quality wines rather than the search for yield.
Château Cornélie 2015 is made entirely from Merlot. This is Patrick Grisard's first Vin de France, but the vintage is not authorised by law and can be found on the batch number (LC 15 for Lot Cornélie 2015). The vinification is carried out without the use of sulfur and the wine is aged for 12 months in barrels of several wines, and 12 months in wooden vats from Stockinger, which brings little or no woody taste.
