LES REMPARTS DE FERRIÈRE 2017
Château Ferrière is located in Margaux, in the region of Bordeaux. It was ranked Third Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. It spreads over 18 hectares planted with vines, mostly within the village of Margaux itself. It was founded in the 18th century by Gabriel Ferrière, with the vineyard progressively enlarged by his cousin Jean, the mayor of Bordeaux in 1792. In 1988, Jacques Merlaut bought the vineyards and the château but it was not until 1992 that the tenancy agreement with Château Lascombes came to an end and thus was born the first vintage produced by his daughter Bernadette Villars-Merlaut. Jacques Merlaut and his family were also the owners of Chateau Chasse-Spleen, La Gurgue and Haut-Bages Liberal. On the death of her parents, Claire Villars Lurton took over after her mother and since 2000 when the family properties were divided among the family members, she has fully managed Château Ferrière, as well as Châteaux Haut-Bages Liberal and La Gurgue.
Les Remparts de Ferrière is the Château's second wine. It is a blend of Merlot (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (46%) and Petit Verdot (4%). The wine is aged in barrels for 12 months, 20% of which are new. This wine is certified in organic farming and in the process of being converted to biodynamic farming.
