BEN NEVIS - 2016 - 5 ans - Peated Montravel Wine Cask - Signatory Vintage - 46%
Signatory Vintage was founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington and is now one of the largest independent whisky bottlers.
Ben Nevis Distillery, established in 1825, is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The distillery is nestled at the foot of Scotland's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, which has a summit elevation of 1,345 metres above sea level. This imposing mountain provides an impressive background to a traditional Scottish craft. The principal ingredients to make a good whisky are water, barley and yeast, with a measure of peat smoke or “reek”. On Ben Nevis, there are two small lochans (Coire Leis and Coire na’Ciste) offering a constant and consistent source of pure, clean water. The barley is clean and plump, fully rounded and quite dry, containing exactly the right amount of protein. The yeast has the texture of dough and is vital to the process of fermentation. The peat comes to the whisky through the water passing over peat bogs on its way down the mountain, and from the “reek” from the fire lit during the manufacturing process. Nowadays and since 1989, Ben Nevis Distillery is owned by Nikka Whisky Distilling of Tokyo.
This limited edition of 391 bottles was distilled at the Ben Nevis Distillery on the 7th of June 2016 and bottled on the 1stof September 2021. This whisky comes from a Single Cask of first-fill Montravel wine hogshead (#202).
