Sponge is a brand created by independent bottler Decadent Drinks . Its founder, Angus MacRaild , a freelance whiskey enthusiast who dabbled in writing, auctioning, tasting, festivals and consulting. He is the author of the Whiskey Sponge blog on which the bottling series is based. Angus is also general manager of Decadent Drinks and responsible for product selection and label design. The bottlings are designed to represent exceptional quality while expressing a sense of fun and "decadence".

Cognac Sponge Edition No.5 is a blend of 2 barrels of Cognac Fin Bois from producer Grosperrin : a Heritage 90 and a Heritage 92. This 28-year-old Cognac was bottled in 2022, and 210 bottles were produced.
