Donnafugata - Anthilia 2021
Donnafugata is located in Marsala, Sicily . The estate was created in 1983 by Giacomo and Gabriella Rallo . The company has five different wineries located in different sub-regions of Sicily, including the neighboring island of Pantelleria. The winery has a proven track record of sustainable and eco-friendly practices and has a number of certifications. In 2011, Donnafugata started calculating the carbon footprint of its wines and, since 2014, these calculations are displayed on the bottles. The Donnafugata labels designed by Stefano Vitale are works of art created or inspired by Gabriella Rallo, just like the names of the wines, a tribute to art and literature.
Anthìlia is a cuvée from Donnafugata's main vineyard: Contessa Entellina. It is made mainly from Lucido (Catarratto) supplemented with other native and international varieties. Vinification takes place in stainless steel vats, then the wine is aged in vats for 2 months. It rests for 2 months in the bottle before being marketed. Its aging potential is 3 years.
The label represents the face of a woman, "mysterious and fleeting" in the image of the Elymian civilization. Anthilìa is the name given to the town of Entella at the top of the Rocca in Roman times. Today, Anthìlia is the name of a victory that identifies with the ancient territory where it has its roots. It is the first wine to have been made in Donnafugata.
Grapes: Lucido (Catarratto), autochthonous varieties, international varieties
