Château LAFAURIE-PEYRAGUEY 1996
Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is located in Sauternes , in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified Premier Grand Cru Classé in the classification of Sauternes and Barsac in 1855. It became a wine estate in 1618 and many owners succeeded one another over the centuries, including the Cordier trading house. It has belonged to the Swiss businessman Silvio Denz since 2014. On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, a new Lalique hotel-restaurant opens its doors in June 2018. At the initiative of Silvio Denz, this address aims to be the convergence of four worlds: wine, crystal, gastronomy, hospitality.
Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is a blend of Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle . Vinification is carried out in fine-grained French oak barrels , 40 to 70% of which are new. The aging lasts 18 to 20 months, in the same type of barrels. The 1996 vintage in Sauternes was excellent . The climatic conditions were ideal with August rains conducive to the installation of the sought-after botrytis. By October, botrytis had taken hold and the resulting wines were rich, sweet and concentrated.
Grapes: Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle
