Markus Molitor - Graacher Domprobst - Riesling - Auslese *** 2006
Weingut Markus Molitor is located in Rheinland-Pfalz, in the Moselle region of Germany . The winery was acquired by Markus Molitor in 1984, who carried out extensive renovations between 2009 and 2012. The winery and its eponymous owner attracted worldwide attention in 2015 and earned the nickname "Herr 300 Punkte" ( Mister 300 points) when three Auslese Rieslings from his 2013 vintage received a 100 point rating from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. The estate cultivates vines on 15 different sites in Moselle and Saar, the vast majority being planted with Riesling. Markus Molitor uses color-coded capsules according to the style of the wine: white capsules denote dry wines, off-dry wines have a gray-green capsule while naturally sweet and botrytized wines have a golden capsule.
The term Graacher Domprobst describes a German vineyard in Graach, a village in Bereich Bernkastel, in the Moselle wine region. The Graach vineyards are part of a vast slate hillside that rises above the right bank of the river from Bernkastel-Kues to Zeltingen. This southwest-facing slope dominates the village and is precariously steep, undulating along the approximately 1.5 kilometers of riverbank towards Wehlen. Three sites have been classified by the VDP as Grosse Lage – Domprobst, Josephshöfer and Himmelreich. The Graacher Domprobst vineyard is a 28.5 hectare south-west facing block, giving the vines good exposure to all day sun, and has blue-grey Devonian clay-schist soil.
Grape variety: 100% Riesling
