CITADELLE - No Mistake - Old Tom Gin - 46%
Citadelle Gin is a French gin produced at Château de Bonbonnet by Maison Ferrand . In 1989, Alexandre Gabriel founded the company with the philosophy of preserving ancient production methods that capture the true expression of the spirit, and committed to reinventing classics while promoting innovation. In 1996, Alexandre created Citadelle gin, the precursor to French gin, launching a veritable gin movement in France. Due to the strict regulations imposed by the AOC Cognac (his first spirit), Alexandre Gabriel was forced to stop using his stills for seven months of the year. After five long years of negotiations, he obtained permission to distill gin during the usual resting period of traditional Charentais copper stills, giving them a new life.
No Mistake is an Old Tom Gin inspired by the tradition of popular gins from 18th and 19th century England. It contains 22 spices : juniper, genepi, almond, grains of paradise, angelica, iris, cardamom, lemon, cassia, liquorice, cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander, orange, cornflower, savory, cubeb, star anise, cumin, violet, fennel and yuzu. The gin is aged in various wooden containers , and toasted cane sugar , also aged in barrels, is added.
"This Old Tom, revisited by Citadelle, combines the elegance of juniper with the warm nuances of toasted sugar. On the palate, the texture is velvety, the spicy, lemony bouquet evolves into a woody, almost candied sweetness. A bold rediscovery of the gin of yesteryear."
