Château LA CARDONNE 1985
Château La Cardonne 1985, Cru Bourgeois du Médoc, is a remarkable example of Bordeaux classicism from the 1980s. Located north of Saint-Estèphe, on a plateau of deep gravel and limestone clay, the estate benefits from an ideal terroir for producing balanced, distinguished wines with excellent aging potential. This property belongs to the Rothschild family and has a label similar to Lafite Rothschild.
The 1985 vintage, one of the most harmonious of the decade, was distinguished by consistent weather and perfect grape maturity. The wine, a typical blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, was aged in oak barrels, developing over time a remarkable aromatic complexity while maintaining a beautiful freshness.
The nose now reveals an evolved and noble palette: stewed black fruits, leather, blond tobacco and truffle, supported by notes of cedar and undergrowth. On the palate, the texture is supple and silky, with the polished tannins providing a perfectly blended structure. The mid-palate retains its liveliness, and the long and persistent finish unfolds nuances of plum, sweet pepper and noble wood.
A fully mature, elegant and perfectly balanced Médoc, to be enjoyed now with a leg of lamb, duck confit or mature cheese. Serve between 17 and 18°C after aerating gently.
Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc
