Château RAUZAN-SÉGLA 2019
In Margaux, Château Rauzan-Ségla occupies one of the most renowned historic terroirs of the appellation, on deep gravelly slopes that give the Cabernet Sauvignon a particularly fine and persistent expression. A Second Growth classified in 1855, the estate has belonged to the Chanel house since 1994, which has undertaken significant precision work in the vineyards, cellars, and parcel selection. The vineyard combines deep gravel, sands, and more clayey areas, allowing each grape variety to be adapted to the soil's nature. Cabernet Sauvignon forms the backbone of the grand vin, while Merlot adds more flesh and velvety texture. Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc are used in smaller proportions to enrich the structure and aromatic complexity. The warm and bright 2019 vintage allowed for ripe grapes while preserving remarkable freshness on the great terroirs of Margaux. Rauzan-Ségla 2019 thus combines depth, aromatic brilliance, and tannic finesse in a particularly harmonious style.
Château Rauzan-Ségla 2019 blends 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. The Cabernet Sauvignon provides a straight and deep framework, dominated by blackcurrant, graphite, and spices, while the Merlot gives more breadth to the mid-palate. Petit Verdot discreetly strengthens the color and spicy relief, while Cabernet Franc completes the ensemble with a floral and more airy touch. The different parcels are vinified separately to preserve their identity before composing the final blend. Extractions are carried out with precision to accompany the vintage's maturity without hardening the tannic grain. Aging in French oak barrels gradually refines the structure and allows the fruit to retain its clarity. The 2019 currently possesses great cohesion, but its balance and depth still give it a very significant aging potential.
The color shows a deep garnet with still strong ruby reflections. The nose opens on blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry, accompanied by violet, graphite, and cedar. With aeration, nuances of licorice, cocoa, blond tobacco, and fine spices gradually appear. The palate is distinguished by a broad but remarkably precise matter, with silky tannins that provide depth without heaviness. Cabernet Sauvignon brings tension and length, while Merlot envelops the mid-palate with a fleshier and refined texture. The finish is long and fresh, on black fruits, flowers, graphite, and a discreet smoky nuance. Château Rauzan-Ségla 2019 will accompany a roasted rack of lamb, a beef fillet with porcini mushrooms, pigeon, veal with morels, or refined cuisine around black truffle.
