Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey - Saint-Aubin 1er Cru - La Chatenière 2023
The Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is located in Chassagne-Montrachet, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, a region worldwide renowned for its great white wines made from Chardonnay. Pierre-Yves Colin, son of the winemaker Marc Colin in Saint-Aubin, created his own estate in the mid-2000s after working several years within the family vineyard. The estate now cultivates a group of parcels mainly spread between Chassagne-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, and Meursault, on clay-limestone soils typical of the Côte de Beaune. Viticulture is conducted with great attention to the soils and grape maturity, while vinifications favor minimal intervention to preserve the identity of each climate. The estate's wines are renowned for their precision and their ability to reveal the personality of Burgundy terroirs thanks to long and very controlled aging.
The Saint-Aubin 1er Cru La Chatenière 2023 comes from a premier cru classified climate located in the lower part of the Saint-Aubin valley, an area recognized for producing mostly very fine white wines.
The La Chatenière 2023 cuvée is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes coming from parcels planted on clay-limestone soils characteristic of the Côte de Beaune. This terroir allows a gradual ripening of the grapes while preserving a natural acidity that gives Saint-Aubin wines their tension and precision. The harvest is carefully done to preserve the integrity of the clusters and the aromatic purity of the grape variety. After whole cluster pressing, fermentation takes place in oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, a method that supports the wine's expression without dominating it. Aging continues for many months on fine lees, often in demi-muids or previously used barrels, to develop the wine's texture and depth. This approach results in a Chardonnay that is both structured and very precise, faithful to the mineral style sought by Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. Wines from the La Chatenière climate are particularly known for their energy and saline expression of the terroir.
On tasting, this Saint-Aubin 1er Cru La Chatenière 2023 reveals an elegant bouquet dominated by aromas of citrus, white peach, and orchard fruits, accompanied by floral notes and a slight toasted nuance. The palate is distinguished by a broad and taut texture, supported by precise acidity that brings freshness and dynamism. Flavors evoke ripe lemon, crisp apple, and sometimes a subtle hint of hazelnut linked to the aging. The whole is particularly energetic, with a marked mineral framework that recalls the limestone nature of the terroir. The finish, long and salivating, extends the citrus aromas with a very persistent saline sensation. This wine ideally accompanies shellfish, noble fish, creamy poultry dishes, or mushroom-based dishes. Thanks to its structure and natural tension, it also has aging potential capable of revealing more complexity over time.
