Domaine Sylvain PATAILLE - Marsannay Rouge 2023
The Domaine Sylvain Pataille, located in Marsannay in the north of the Côte de Nuits, is now an essential reference for the appellation. An agronomy engineer by training, Sylvain Pataille manages his vineyard using organic farming practices, close to biodynamics, in a constant quest for the pure expression of the terroir. The soils are worked with precision to preserve microbial life and promote deep rooting. The domaine has established itself through its technical rigor, low yields, and ability to reveal the full nobility of Marsannay. Its wines, known for their finesse and depth, are among the most sought-after in the northern Côte de Nuits.
The Marsannay Rouge 2023 is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape variety of Burgundy. Originating from plots situated on typical clay-limestone soils of the appellation, it benefits from balanced ripening that highlights the natural freshness of the 2023 vintage. The vinification favors natural fermentations and gentle extraction to preserve the elegance of the fruit. The aging, carried out in barrels with a measured proportion of new wood, refines the structure without masking the terroir's identity. This cuvée illustrates the precision and uprightness characteristic of the Pataille style.
On tasting, the wine reveals a delicate nose of red cherry, raspberry, and violet, accompanied by subtle spicy and slightly smoky notes. The palate is elegant and chiselled, supported by fine tannins and a beautiful mineral tension. The balance between bright fruit and refined structure gives the wine depth and length. The finish is clean, fresh, and persistent. This Marsannay Rouge 2023 will ideally accompany roasted poultry, white meats, or delicate Burgundian cuisine, and can evolve harmoniously for a few years in the cellar.
