Whisky The DALMORE - Port Wood Reserve - 46,50%
The Dalmore Distillery is located in Alness, north of Inverness in Scotland. It sits on the shores of the Cromarty Firthoverlooking the Black Isle. The legend of Dalmore dates back to 1263, when Colin of Kintail, chieftain of the Mackenzie clan, saved King Alexander III of Scotland from a charging stag. The distillery was established in 1839 by entrepreneur Alexander Matheson, who after 28 years decided it was time to hand over the distillery to new owners. Andrew and Charles Mackenzie stepped forward and, as members of the Mackenzie Clan, brought with them the Royal 12-pointed Stag emblem, the Caberfeidh that adorns every bottle of The Dalmore. The operations lasted until 1917, when the British Royal Navy began to use the Firth next to the distillery as a production site for deep-water mines. In 1920, much of the distillery was destroyed by an explosion and a fire caused by a mine detonation. The distillery remained in the Mackenzie family until 1960, when one of Dalmore's main clients, Whyte & Mackay, took control. With four stills, Dalmore has a capacity of 4.2 million litres per year.
The Port Wood Reserve is aged in American ex-Bourbon white oak barrels and old Porto Tawny barrels.
