Le Cygne du Château Fonréaud - Blanc 2018
Château Fonréaud is located in Listrac-Médoc, in the Bordeaux region. It belongs to Vignobles Chanfreau. In 1932, Château Fonréaud was classified as Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, classification renewed in 2003. Since 2008, the wines of Château Fonréaud have been recognised as Crus Bourgeois every year. In 1962, Léo Chanfreau, winegrower in Algeria, returned with his family to Metropolitan France. He then visited many properties before buying Château de Fonréaud. The vineyard has only 17 hectares of very old vines and the wooden vats of the vat room are doomed to destruction. He replanted the vines, built the concrete vat room which is still used today, and undertook major work in the château. Victim of a tractor accident in 1970, he left his work unfinished. The management of the estate remains family-run with Marcel then Jean Chanfreau who take over. In 1983, Château Fonréaud was recognised by the profession by becoming a member of the Bordeaux Wine Academy and the closed circle of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. In 1985, work began on finishing the château and optimising the vineyard. Thanks to the reconstitution of a white vineyard, 1991 is the rebirth vintage of Le Cygne de Château Fonréaud, created by the Leblanc de Mauvezins a century earlier. The vineyard is managed in sustainable viticulture with a High Environmental Value (HVE) certification.
