Claudia et Laurent Jaboulet - Cornas 2016
Claudia and Laurent Jaboulet, son of Jacques Jaboulet, acquired in 2011 a small plot of vines located in Cornas and planted in 1961. Trained oenologists, they embarked on this new adventure with their children Lola and Max. The neat vines are cultivated like a Japanese garden. The work of the vines and the soil is carried out without herbicides or insecticides. They use Bordeaux mixture, volcanic sulfur and herbal infusions, and their horse Polly takes care of the ploughing. The harvest is very fast; just a few tens of minutes for the grapes to benefit from the sun's rays until the last moment before leaving the vineyard for good. The volume to be vinified does not allow the slightest error of appreciation, monitoring and anticipation must be essential.
This cuvée, made from Syrah, is matured for 32 months in barrels to achieve balance and soften the hardness of the tannins. By natural sedimentation and without artifice, all clarification or filtration manipulations are unnecessary. The wine is bottled and then aged in bottles for at least 6 months. The label was created by artist Alin Marthouret.
Grape variety: 100% Syrah
