CLOS FOURTET 2019
Clos Fourtet is located in Saint-Emilion, in the Bordeaux region. It was classified Premier Grand Cru Classé in the Saint-Emilion classification. Formerly called Camp Fourtet ("Small Fort"), it was designed to protect the city of Saint-Emilion in the Middle Ages. Winemaking at the property began in the 18th century. Clos Fourtet underwent several changes of owners during the 20th century before being bought by the Cuvelier family in 2001. The vineyard covers 20 hectares in one piece and is managed in a sustainable way with the use of organic treatments and biodynamic methods, not certified. The estate's soils are naturally fertilized by their cows and the ecosystem is strengthened by the presence of wild flowers and shrubs.
Clos Fourtet 2019 is a blend of Merlot (90%), Cabernet Sauvignon (7%) and Cabernet Franc (3%). The fermentation of the grapes takes place in whole berries and in stainless steel vats. Fermentation lasts 22 to 30 days with manual punching down. Aging lasts between 14 and months, half in new barrels, barrels of 1 wine (48%) and jar (2%).
