Poggio Antico - Brunello di Montalcino 2016
Poggio Antico is located in Montalcino, in Tuscany, Italy. It was established in 1976 from the union of I Poggi, Madre and Le Martine areas. Poggio Antico rests on the highest vineyard hill of the entire denomination, south of the village of Montalcino. The 35-hectares vineyard is cultivated at an altitude of almost 500 meters. The ancient and mixed soil is made up of calcareous rock and galestro (marl) forcing the Sangiovese grape to bring out its best expression. In 2017, Marcel van Poecke acquires Poggio Antico through AtlasInvest. A new team of local agronomists and oenologists is created and led by Federico Trost. The vineyard obtains its first organic certification in 2020.
The Brunello di Montalcino 2016 is made with Sangiovese according to the traditional method. Each parcel of vines is collected according to custom harvest calendars. The grapes are examinated three times: during the harvest, on the sorting table and with the use of an optical sorter. The plots are vinified and fermented separately then blended together before bottling. Brunello wines must be aged at least 5 years, with a minimum of 2 years in barrels and a minimum of 4 months in the bottle.
Grape variety: 100% Sangiovese
