Chairman's Reserve - Cuvée 1931 - Selection 2017 - 46%
Chairman's Reserve is a rum produced by St. Lucia Distillers Group Ltd on the island of Saint Lucia in the West Indies . The Barnard family first settled in Santa Lucia in the 1930s and established their distillery making rum from the molasses produced by the island's sprawling sugar cane plantations. Due to the rise of European sugar beet, the local sugar industry was forced to disappear and the last two distilleries formed a joint venture to consolidate their operations, creating what are known today as the St. Lucia Distillers. Laurie Barnard set out to restore Santa Lucia's rum providence and created the Chairman's Reserve. Since the island's last sugar plantation closed in the 1960s, they source their rich molasses from British Guiana.
Chairman's Reserve Cuvée 1931 is a tribute to the philosophy and craftsmanship of rum established by the founder of the distillery, Denis Barnard. It is a blend of rums distilled in pot stills and coffey stills, aged for 6 to 11 years in Bourbon and Port barrels. The majority of the blend comes from traditional molasses rum, to which is added a part of agricultural rum produced from fresh sugar cane.
