Château LAFAURIE-PEYRAGUEY 1994
Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is located in Sauternes , in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified Premier Grand Cru Classé in the classification of Sauternes and Barsac in 1855. It became a wine estate in 1618 and many owners succeeded one another over the centuries, including the Cordier trading house. It has belonged to the Swiss businessman Silvio Denz since 2014. On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, a new Lalique hotel-restaurant opens its doors in June 2018. At the initiative of Silvio Denz, this address aims to be the convergence of four worlds: wine, crystal, gastronomy, hospitality.
Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is a blend of Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle . Vinification is carried out in fine-grained French oak barrels , 40 to 70% of which are new. The aging lasts 18 to 20 months, in the same type of barrels. The 1994 vintage in Sauternes experienced severe spring frosts, which particularly affected Barsac. However, bud break and flowering were successful and the growing season continued reasonably well throughout the summer. The good conditions did not last due to a deluge of rain in September which diluted the grapes, decimated yields and may have introduced both rot and disease. October finally saw the return of good weather, the sunny days were able to save part of the vintage.
